158 Awards Presented to 41 Companies at 6th Annual Custom Publishing Honors
New York, NY (November 13, 2009) — Honoring the best in design, editorial and strategic initiatives for B2B and consumer custom publications, the Custom Publishing Council (CPC) presented its sixth annual Pearl Awards at New York City’s Twenty-Four Fifth last night in front of 130 CPC members and guests. Soraya Darabi, Manager, Partnership and Buzz Marketing, The New York Times, Nicholas Carlson, Senior Editor, The Business Insider, and Matt Kinsman, Executive Editor, Red7 Media, awarded bronze, silver and gold plaques to those custom publishers who have excelled at creating stellar content on behalf of their clients across print and digital platforms.
This year’s 469 entries represent 57 companies in eight countries, and winning publications reflect a wide range of clients, including cable companies, medical institutions, retailers, health care providers, fitness organizations, hotel chains, car manufacturers and financial institutions. The editorial and design award categories focus on the best new, ongoing, and improved publications, while the strategy categories look at how well the publications complement the sponsoring organization’s integrated marketing campaigns, how well they achieve the organization’s goals, how well they prove a return on investment, and how innovative and effective a distribution strategy they employ. This year, two new categories were added: best use of community/social networking and best use of mobile technology.
”What all of the winners here tonight have in common is great content—across all different platforms. As the definition of custom publishing continues to evolve, so do custom content creators on behalf of their clients—the entries this year reflect that growth and innovation. It is an exciting time to be in this industry,” said Lori Rosen, executive director, Custom Publishing Council.
This year, TMG received the most Pearl Awards, with 19 wins, followed closely by Pace Communications and Rodale Custom Publishing, with 16 awards each. Other big winners include Spafax with 12 awards, Time Inc. Content Solutions and Meredith Integrated Marketing, who each garnered 10 awards, and Leverage Media, with an impressive 9 awards.
Chris McMurry, CEO of McMurry and past president/chairman of the CPC, was presented with the John Caldwell Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing his innovative leadership and creative contributions to the custom publishing industry.
The Best in Custom award is presented to the publication that received top overall ranking among all gold winners. This year, it was presented to Spafax for Air Canada’s enRoute. enRoute is published monthly and is distributed onboard all Air Canada flights and in specially selected retail locations. Spafax currently works with over 60 international airline clients worldwide.
Pearl awards sponsor Zinio created a special digital edition of the show program, which was displayed at the awards ceremony through the use of iwall technology. To view the digital edition of the program, including all of the winners listed below, please visit www.custompublishingcouncil.com.
